Chapters

1, 2God calls Amos to speak to the people of Israel about the impending judgment. Amos warns other nations, saying that God will send fire upon them. He then makes a list of the wrongs that the people of Israel have done.
3 - 6Amos delivers three sermons about the sins of Israel.
7 - 9Amos narrates five visions about the imminent judgment of Israel. The first two visions show terrible punishments. Amos asks God to spare the people, and God listens to him. In the third vision, God makes an accurate assessment of the people and does not spare them from punishment. The fourth vision compares the people to a basket of fruits, once good, but that have rotted in a short time. The fifth vision indicates a tremendous judgment upon Israel.
9Speaks about the promise of restoration, where God will restore the lineage of David.
