Melchizedek was a foreign king of Salem who also served as “priest of God Most High.”
He met Abram after Abram’s victory over the eastern kings and brought out bread and wine.
He pronounced a blessing over Abram and praised God as the deliverer.
Abram, in response, gave him a tenth of the spoils.
Melchizedek’s brief appearance highlights that true priestly worship of the Most High God was recognized beyond Abram’s immediate household in the Patriarchal Period.
